Trade Commissioner – Chicago & the Midwest

Ian Smith has extensive experience in international trade having undertaken numerous sales and marketing roles in the fields of automotive, biotechnology, agribusiness and food. Mr Smith was appointed as Australian Trade Commissioner for Chicago and the Midwest in January 2006 and is also a member of Austrade’s specialist US Food and Wine Team. Prior to coming to Chicago Ian was based in Los Angeles overseeing implementation of Austrade’s strategic directions in relation to the Australia-United States Free Trade Agreement (AUSFTA).

He was appointed Chairman of the Chicago International Trade Commissioners Association (CITCA) from January 2009 to January 2010. CITCA is an informal organization comprising the top economic representatives from foreign governments based in Chicago and responsible for the Midwest.
